What was fascinating for us was that it gave us a great insight, not just in what the fort did during the war, but we learnt about everything leading up to both wars and what happened subsequently. For me the most interesting part was understanding how they recycled and reused, the contribution women made to the war effort, and what to cook with so little.
Enjoy the photo's - sorry some of them are so grainy. The exhibitions were in 'caves' round the fort.

I bought a book whilst I was there - Rationing in the Second World War - Spuds, Spam and Eating for Victory. I'll share some bits of it once I've read it, as I'm sure they'll be some interesting articles.

What a wonderful insight into what it was like. I think we don't have so much of this in France because things were so much worse - who would want to commemorate it? But I should look out for anything that gives me more idea of what it was like.

These days out are so interesting and hard to stop lusting after so many of the exhibits too. We went to a great Make Do and Mend day at a US base recently, forgot my camera though! Learnt that whale fat featured in a lot of cooking - yum yum.

That looks like a good day, i went to the Imperial War Museum in Manchester on Saturday. Really interesting, i have a particular interest in WW2, the homefront rather than the fighting (and Victorian History). I saw that book too, didn't buy it so will be interested to hear more about it.
You should deffinately snap up a Figaro. Only 20,000 ever made in 1991. Fewer being imported so fewer for the market, will be getting rather expensive in the future.
